How
do I register to vote? |
 |
As of January 1, 2006, all municipalities in Wisconsin require voter registration prior to a person being allowed to vote. Anyone wishing to vote in the State of Wisconsin has three options to register:
1. BY MAIL: Download the Application for Voter Registration (EB131), complete the form and mail it into the municipal clerk's office. The application must be postmarked no later than the 3rd Wednesday before the election. PLEASE NOTE: State and federal law now requires that any first-time voter submitting a registration application by mail provide a copy of an acceptable identifying document that provides proof of residence. (A “first-time voter” is an individual who has not voted in an election in Wisconsin.) Acceptable forms of proof of residence are outlined below. Please note that first-time voters registering by mail may not use a residential lease as proof of residence. The copy of the form of proof of residence must be included when submitting the registration application. If a copy of proof of residence is not included, you will be required to supply it before being issued a ballot at the polling place or before being issued an absentee ballot in the municipal clerk’s office.
2. IN PERSON: Register in the municipal clerk's office up to 5:00 p.m. or the close of business whichever is later on the day before the election. Note: after the BY MAIL deadline, an elector voting in person in the clerk's office is required to present acceptable proof of residence as outlined below.
3. AT THE POLLING PLACE ON ELECTION DAY: If you wish to register to vote at the polling place, you must bring proof that you have lived at your present location for at least 10 days preceding the election. For purposes of voter registration, acceptable forms of proof of residence must include: 1. A current and complete name, including both the given and family name; and, 2. A current and complete residential address, including a numbered street address, if any, and the name of the municipality. **Forms with an expiration date must be valid on Election Day.
PROOF OF RESIDENCE:
The following constitute acceptable Proof-of-Residence if the document contains the information specified above:
1. A current and valid Wisconsin driver’s license.
2. A current and valid Wisconsin identification card.
3. Any other official identification card or license issued by a Wisconsin governmental body or unit.
4. Any identification card issued by an employer in the normal course of business and bearing a photo of the card holder, but not including a business card.
5. A real estate tax bill or receipt for the current year or the year preceding the date of the election.
6. A residential lease which is effective for a period that includes election day (NOT for first-time voters registering by mail.)
7. A university, college or technical institute fee card (must include photo.)
8. A university, college or technical institute identification card (must include photo.)
9. A gas, electric or telephone service statement (utility bill) for the period commencing not earlier than 90 days before election day.
10. Bank statement.
11. Paycheck.
12. A check or other document issued by a unit of government. For more information on voter registration, please contact the Town Hall.

Who do I call to get my
garbage & recycling bins? |
 |
If you are a new resident, please initiate service by calling the Town office at 336-3360.
The Town provides each resident with a 32-gallon trash bin and a 32-gallon recycling bin.
All trash must be in trash bags inside the trash bin. If all your trash fits into the 32-gallon standard trash bin, then you need do nothing.
However, if you generate more trash than fits into the 32-gallon trash bin, you may order a 65-gallon trash bin.
The price for this larger bin is an extra $36.00 per year. If the 65-gallon bin is still too small for your needs, you may order a 95-gallon trash
bin. The yearly fee for this bin is $52.80. These charges will be billed to you separately by the Town on your quarterly sewer and water bill, or
yearly if you do not receive a quarterly utility bill. You will still be billed each year for your garbage collection on your tax bill as in the
past. The quarterly charge for a 65-gallon trash bin is $9.00 per quarter, and the quarterly charge for a 95-gallon trash bin is $13.20 per quarter.
If you need to upgrade to a larger bin, please call the Town office to order a larger bin. If you need to dispose of extra bags on an infrequent basis,
these extra bags can be taken to the Veolia facility at 1799 CTH PP, M-F, 7:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. The cost is $1.00 per 33 gallon bag. Please remember
that the Town's garbage pick up is for residential customers only-NOT FOR BUSINESSES. The above policy applies only to trash, not recycling.
|
 |
When is garbage and recycling
picked up? |
 |
For those residents living on CTH
GV, including both sides of CTH GV, and everything EAST
of CTH GV, pick-up for garbage and recycling is Wednesday.
For those residents living WEST of CTH GV, pick-up for
garbage and recycling is Tuesday. Garbage pickup is
every week, unless a holiday falls on that day. If a
holiday falls on a Tuesday or Wednesday, garbage pick
up is the following day. Recycling pick up is every
other Tuesday or Wednesday. The blue colored bins are
for garbage and the green colored bins are for recycling.
|
 |
How do I dispose
of large items, old tires, paint, etc? |
 |
Oil based and latex paint, solvents, pesticides, antifreeze, aerosols, cleaners, degreasers, computers, mercury containing devices and batteries
are commonly accepted materials at the Household Hazardous Waste Facility located at 2561 South Broadway, in the Village of Ashwaubenon.
Telephone (920) 492-4950. Open hours are Thursday-12 noon-6:00 p.m. and Saturday-8:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m.
Materials that cannot be brought to the Household Hazardous Waste Facility are tires, infectious and biological wastes, radioactive material,
explosives and ammunition. Call the Recycling Hotline for more information in regards to the disposal of these materials.
(920) 448-4400, Option 5. Used tires, appliances and Lead Acid Batteries are accepted at the Brown County Transfer Station.
For additional information and hours, please call the Brown County Hotline (920) 448-4400, Option 5,
or the Brown County Port & Solid Waste Department, (920) 492-4950.
|
 |
Can I burn my trash? |
 |
No. You are only allowed to burn brush and must have a permit for this. The permit is free and can be issued for up to 5 days.
Permits are available at the Town Hall and by contacting the Fire Department directly.
You must notify the Brown County's non-emergency number (448-4200, Extension 5) prior to burning.
|
 |
How do I connect to the
sewer and water? |
 |
The timeline for connections is mandated on a per project policy basis.
When connecting, you must connect to both sewer and water
- Contact an excavator.
Sewer and water laterals have been installed to the right-of-way on your property. You will need
to contact an excavator to put in your private laterals from this point on to your home.
- Take out a permit.
Either you or your contractor will need to take out a permit with the Town office. These permits cover our inspection costs and inform us when the work has been completed. The inspection is for your protection so that you are assured that a clay dam and enough stone is in place. You may want to talk to your contractor or plumber as to whether a
backwater valve is recommended for your particular location.
These valves prevent backups.
The current cost of the permit for existing residences is $394.00 ($75.00 is for the sewer hookup, $25.00 is
for the water connection and $294.00 is for Central Brown County Water Authority -CBCWA).
- Call a plumber.
The plumber will need to disconnect inside plumbing from your private well and prepare a fitting for the water meter. CALL US AT 336-3360 TO LET US KNOW WHEN YOUR PLUMBER IS COMING so that we can schedule someone to be there to set the
meter and turn your water on. Please avoid scheduling a plumber on Fridays
if at all possible.
- You must have your private
well capped or have it permitted for outside usage
only.
It is preferred that your private well be capped, however, at this time the District is allowing private
wells to be permitted for outside usage only. These permits must be renewed every five years.
A well driller can cap your well or you may opt to do it yourself
by filling it with Bentonite after the pump is pulled from the well.
Bentonite is available through most well drilling contractors or it
can be ordered through Progressive Farmers. A DNR well abandonment
form 3300-5B must be filled out and one copy sent to our office for
our files. I can get you this form if you need one. An application
for a private well operation permit is enclosed. To permit your
well for outside usage, you must meet the requirements of Chapter
NR 112 of the Wisconsin Administration Code by having a licensed
well driller inspect the well and pump and sign the application
form showing its compliance. Also, one sampling is needed to
show that the water is bacteriologically safe. We will need a
copy of the report attached to the application, along with the
permit fee of $15.00.
Please call Luann Pansier at 336-3360 (ext 105),
if you have any questions or need further information

 |
Why is hydrant flushing
done? |
 |
Hydrants are flushed yearly to
keep the lines free from sand and residue buildup that
occurs over the course of time.
|
 |
When is hydrant flushing
done? |
 |
Hydrant flushing is generally done
in April and October. The Town of Ledgeview will notify
its residents when hydrant flushing will be done. There
is usually a notice in the Press Gazette and the De
Pere Journal several days before the flushing is to
start. There will also be a notice in the Ledgeview
Newsletter.
|
 |
How will hydrant
flushing affect me? |
 |
You may see some discoloration
in your water because the sediments in the lines are
stirred up by the flushing. This discoloration is not
harmful but it can stain laundry.
|
 |
How can I prevent
my laundry from becoming stained during hydrant flushing? |
 |
Hydrant flushing takes place during
the day time hours and is usually done by 4:00 pm.,
so laundry could be safely done after that. Check your
taps for discoloration and allow the line to run for
several minutes, then proceed with your laundry. If
your clothes should become stained, please stop in the
office and we can supply you with a detergent to remove
the stains.
|
 |
Who is the building
inspector and what are his hours? |
 |
Bob Gerbers is the building inspector.
His hours are 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. on Tuesdays & Thursday at
the Ledgeview Town Hall. 336-3360, Ext 103.
The building inspector must be
contacted in order to receive a building permit. Permits
are required for residential buildings, duplex buildings,
garages/accessory buildings, residential remodeling,
excavation/erosion control without structure, residential
foundation repair/excavation, utilities, permanent signs,
barns for private use, decks, inground and above ground
swimming pools, docks, and privacy fences. In addition,
a permit is required moving or demolition of a structure.
Retaining fees are also required from contractors.
|
 |
Who do I contact about potholes
in the road? |
 |
Contact the Town Clerk at the Municipal
Building, (920) 336-3360, Ext. 108.
|
 |
Why do I need to get a dog
tag? |
 |
Per Wisconsin State Statute 174.05,
the owner of any dog more than 5 months of age must
have their dog licensed and tagged. This statute is
there for the protection of its citizens by making sure
dog owners are current on their pets rabies shots. The
tag numbers help to identify the dog, their owners,
and their rabies shot vaccine in the event someone should
get bit.
|
 |
What do I need to do to get
a dog tag? |
 |
The first step is to get your pet
vaccinated for rabies. A young dog should get its first
rabies shot at about 3 months of age. The first rabies
shot is good for one year. Thereafter, rabies vaccinations
are effective for 3 years. Your veterinarian will supply
you with documentation indicating that your pet has
been vaccinated. This document should include the rabies
vaccination date, the expiration date, the vaccine manufacturer,
the serial number of the vaccine, the dogs name, sex,
whether your pet is spayed or neutered, the color, the
breed of the dog and the dog owners name.
Bring or send the rabies documentation,
along with payment, to the town office located at 3700
Dickinson Rd, De Pere, WI 54115. There is also a drop
box located in the vestibule of the town office building
where you can drop this information off after hours.
The office hours at the town are 8:00 to 4:00 pm, Monday
through Friday. All rabies documents are returned to
the owners with the tags.
|
 |
What happens if I don't
tag my dog? |
 |
Per Wisconsin State Statute 174.05,
a dog is considered untagged if a valid license tag
is not attached to a collar which is kept on the dog
whenever the dog is outdoors, unless the dog is securely
confined in a fenced area. If the owner permits the
dog to be untagged, the owner shall forfeit not less
than $25.00 nor more than $100.00 for the first offense
and not less than $50.00 nor more than $200.00 for subsequent
offenses.
|
 |
What does the
Town of Ledgeview do with the money it collects for dog
tags? |
 |
Records of all dog tag receipts
and payments are sent to the Brown County Clerk.
|
 |
My neighbor has a dog that
is constantly in my yard. What can I do about this? |
 |
Per Wisconsin State Statute 174.42,
dogs running at large and untagged are subject to impoundment
and penalties to the owner. A dog is considered at large
if it is off of the premises of its owner and not under
the control of the owner or some other person responsible
for it.
If the owner of the dog negligently
or otherwise permits the dog to run at large, the owner
shall forfeit not less than $25.00 nor more than $100.00
for the first offense and not less than $50.00 nor more
than $200.00 for subsequent offenses.
|
 |
Who do I contact if I
have a problem with a neighbors pet? |
 |
Contact Constable Pat Van Rite, (920) 621-3765.
|
 |
How do I volunteer
for the Fire Department? |
 |
Applications are available at the
Town office.
|
 |
Who do I contact regarding
non-emergency Fire Department issues? |
 |
Contact the Fire Department at
(920) 336-3360, Extension 106.
|
 |
What are the winter parking
rules? |
 |
To assist in the clearing of snow
from the streets, parking on all Town streets from 2
a.m. to 6 a.m. is prohibited through April 1st. Parking
is also prohibited during snow emergencies which are
announced on local radio and television stations.
|
 |
Who do I contact if
the snowplow damages my mailbox? |
 |
The Town is not responsible for mailboxes that are damaged by the snowplow.
Please ensure that your mailbox is out of the right-of-way to reduce the chance of damage.
|
|
