Enhancements to Ledgeview Park & Scray Hill Park
Construction will begin this spring on a public play area located on Winding Waters Way that is a part of the entrance to Ledgeview Park. Improvements will be an entrance and playground ground equipment along with related landscaping. In addition, paving of the parking lot at Scray Hill Park will be completed.
Why?
In 2001, an addition was built to the existing Town Hall (3700 Dickinson Road) that was meant to provide the necessary space for town functions for the ensuing 10 years. Not only have those years gone by quickly, but the growth and needs projected at that time have been far exceeded. Ledgeview’s population grew from 3,663 in 2000 to just over 5,900* in 2010, a 60% increase. As a result, the Town has had to increase staffing and equipment needs to continue to provide the level of services expected by its residents. Those additions have created space deficiencies at the Town Hall/Office and other building locations.
Additionally, the original section of the Town Hall/Fire Station, built in 1986, will need a new roof soon. And, we also received notice several years ago, that the American Disabilities Act has set building standards for all polling places. The building has several deficiencies that must be corrected with changes and upgrades needed to meet those requirements. Finally, parking has been deemed as inadequate for larger meetings and events and of course on election day.
A volunteer committee was formed in October 2009 to look into the existing deficiencies and evaluate the long-term needs of the community.
Where do we go next?
As you are aware in May 2011, the Town hosted an Open House as an opportunity to show our residents and businesses the Town Office, Fire Department and general facilities. Input was collected from the handful of residents who attended the Open House and currently the Facilities Planning Committee, along with the Town Board, are moving forward with reviewing two of the options. Those options are building an addition to the current facility or constructing a new facility.
The Town Board will soon be requesting and reviewing preliminary proposals for both the building addition and new construction options. In addition the Town Board is looking into the future by further reviewing the short and long-term facility needs along with the potential solutions that preliminary proposals can provide. The Town Board would like to create a cost-effective solution to address the existing and future needs. Additional input is always welcome and if you would like to obtain further information on the project, please view our website. On the homepage you will find a link under “What’s New” with pictures, a detailed overview and report and a section where you can submit your comments. Take the time to review and to provide your input.
